Rabat from Tangier: the Al Boraq train, sights and a plan

Rabat, Morocco's capital, makes a good day trip from Tangier thanks to the Al Boraq high-speed train. The times and prices below are indicative (as of October 2026); fares are dynamic and sources differ — check the ONCF website or app.

Getting there from Tangier

Option Time Indicative price
Al Boraq train approx. 1 h 20 2nd class roughly 80–160 MAD; 1st class 110–250 MAD (dearer if booked late)
Car with driver depends on the road per vehicle
  • Station: the Al Boraq arrives at Rabat Agdal, not Rabat Ville.
  • Departures: one source gives hourly trains from about 6 am to 7 pm and then one around 9 pm. Check the current timetable and the last return.
  • For a full day: take one of the first morning trains.

What to see

  • Hassan Tower: free to visit; the unfinished minaret and the columns are an icon of the city.
  • The Mausoleum of Mohammed V: on the same site, free; modest dress is required. Hours and closing days vary by source.
  • The Kasbah of the Udayas: free to enter, with a small museum for about 10 MAD. It is part of the UNESCO World Heritage listing (inscribed 2012).
  • Chellah: a necropolis and ruins, entry quoted at around 70 MAD by one source — please confirm.

You can reach these on foot or by petit taxi; comfortable shoes pay off.

A plan for the day

  1. Morning: Hassan Tower and the mausoleum.
  2. Midday: lunch in town.
  3. Afternoon: the Kasbah of the Udayas, then Chellah if time allows.
  4. Evening: train back — leave a buffer before the last departure.
